VIEWS, VIBES, AND VISION: MY FIRST DETROIT CONDO SHOOT

This spring brought a big first for m! I had a real estate photography session in downtown Detroit. Even better? It was also my very first time photographing a condo/apartment property. And let me tell you, it checked all the boxes.
The one-bedroom, one-bath condo was nestled right in the heart of downtown Detroit, just blocks from Greektown, the Riverwalk, Ford Field, Comerica Park, Little Caesars Arena, and all the iconic energy that makes the city buzz. The neighborhood was clean, walkable, and had that rare blend of charm and edge that only Detroit pulls off so well.
What this condo lacked in square footage, it made up for with style, space potential, and unreal views. Giant windows framed some of the most jaw-dropping sights in the city with panoramic looks at the Detroit River, freighters rolling by, the GM Renaissance Center, and even the skyline of Windsor, Ontario. It felt like the city was right there in the living room.
Technically, the space was one room. It had a combined main area with a bedroom off to the side, but the owners completely transformed it. The main living space was broken up beautifully with intentional design: a cozy dining area, a front-porch-style nook right by the windows (perfect for morning coffee or a martini at golden hour), and a comfortable living setup that felt spacious, not cramped. In the bedroom, they managed to carve out a peaceful sleeping space and a sleek home office corner. The use of mirrors along the walls added a sense of openness and light that made the whole condo feel bigger than it was.
The owners personal style, a mix of mid-century, boho, urban, and creative, really brought the listing to life. As a Detroit real estate photographer, that kind of intentional styling makes my job so much more rewarding. It’s not just about capturing rooms; it’s about showing how a space can live.
And with that much natural light pouring in, I leaned into HDR photography techniques to bring out every detail, from the texture of the furniture to the glimmer of sunlight on the river. This condo may have been small on paper, but the potential in the photos? Massive.
I’ll admit, I took a little extra time with these edits. (Selfishly, of course.) I see so much marketing and portfolio potential here that I want every image to be dialed in and next level. The final gallery is nearly wrapped up, but I’ve still got other homes to shoot, so the balance is real!
